The NetBiter® Serial Server encapsulates serial data (RS232 + RS485) into packets and transports it over Ethernet. The data can be transmitted in both directions. This makes it possible to access, manage, and configure remote equipment over LAN’s or the Internet at any time from anywhere.

The NetBiter® SS100 connects devices with an RS-232 or RS-485 interface via Ethernet to a virtual COM-Port of a Windows PC. The virtual COM-Port on the PC is created by the SerialIP driver Software, which is included with each unit. The product has 2 serial ports, one RS232 port and one RS485. Both can be run simultanously. The solution extends the number of PC COM ports up to 16 on one PC. PC applications designed to access devices via physical COM-Ports, can access the remote device without any software modifications via the Serial Server and the Ethernet network. The Serial Server and its Software driver can be viewed as a long “virtual” serial cable. NetBiter® Serial Server has advanced features for the processing of real time protocols such as Modbus-RTU, Siemens MPI and DF1. This allows remote configuration of Schneider Electric, Siemens and Allen Bradley PLCs via the Internet. The configuration is done over Ethernet through onboard web pages in the product and can therefore be managed from a remote location. The configuration is simple and is done in minutes.
